Over many years there has been a call out to home owners regarding inappropriate and unsafely secured basketball hoops – often fixed to single skin brickwork above garage door openings.
With the end of year break upon us – it bears repeating the call for home owners to review how basketball hoops are installed.
Single skin brickwork – or any brickwork for that matter – does not perform at all well laterally – and this allows for relatively easy delamination of fixings – esp. when forces imposed by a slam dunk action are applied.
Not only can the hoop fall on the person – a good part of the brickwork usually tumbles down as well – severe injury and death can and has resulted.
Any hoop fixed to brickwork should be removed – once again, please self assess and act on this important preventative action.
